Volunteer at the library

Become a Volunteer - Adults and Teens

We appreciate and value the time and effort given by our volunteers. Over the past year our volunteers supported our commitment to excellence by contributing over 10,000 hours of time to the library.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Volunteers must be in grade nine or above.
  • Volunteers must successfully complete a volunteer application.
  • Volunteer opportunities do not require a current Naperville Public Library card.
  • Volunteer tasks and schedules vary. Specific departments may require a background check, an annual MVR (Motor Vehicle Records) report and or a skills assessment.

The library strives to place every applicant; however, volunteer opportunities are limited. Volunteers will be contacted as opportunities become available and scheduled as needed. We keep applications on file for six months. If you have not been placed in six months and would still like to volunteer, please re-apply.

Volunteering Opportunities in the Community

Join the Teen Advisory Group (TAG)

The TAG Team is a group of teens in grades 6 through 12 who work together with teen librarians to make Naperville Public Library a better place for teens.

TAG members provide input on various topics, like:

  • What activities are important for the library to have
  • What books, music, and magazines you want the library to offer
  • Suggestions for teen spaces

TAG members can:

  • Earn community service hours
  • Make new friends
  • Develop leadership skills

TAG members must:

  • Have a valid Naperville Public Library card

Before you apply, check your availability. Each library’s TAG Team meets once a month. The library accepts applications from August through April.

  • Nichols meets on a Monday night.
  • Naper Blvd. meets on a Friday night.
  • 95th St. meets on a Wednesday afternoon.
