How do I get a library card?
You will need a current Illinois driver’s license or a current picture ID and proof of residency, which may include one of any of the following:
  • Checking account
  • Telephone directory verification
  • Current vehicle registration
  • Mortgage/personal loan documents (not application)
  • Rent receipt (within 60 days)
  • Utility bill (within 60 days)
  • Personal mail with postmark (within 60 days)

What is my PIN?
Your PIN (Personal Identification Number) is an encrypted four-digit number that that enables you to access your account information through My Account on our website or mobile app. It is usually the last four digits of your home phone number. Please contact the customer service desk if you need assistance with your PIN.
I have a library card but I don't live in Naperville. Can I borrow materials here?
We have reciprocal borrowing agreements with other libraries. You can register for a card at NPL as long as your card from your home library is valid.  You are welcome to use any of our facilities at any time.

I placed an item on hold, how do I find it?
Your holds will be at the Naperville Public Library location that you chose when placing the hold. The holds are filed on the shelf by the last 4 digits of library card number and first initial of last name under which the hold was placed. You can check which materials you currently have on hold through My Account.
If I don’t find the book I want in your library can I get it from other library?

We have several options:

  • We can try to locate the requested item through LINKin, a resource sharing partnership with 9 other libraries in Illinois.
  • We can search for the item through Inter Library Loan.
  • OR you can fill out a materials request form on our website.
I’m going on vacation. Can I extend the due date on items I have checked out?
If you will be going out of town for an extended amount of time, ask a customer service staff member for a vacation loan. The normal loan period for any item may be doubled except for those with holds or on Interlibrary loan.
Can I pay fines online?
You can access your account and make payment through
  • My Account
  • the mobile app
  • or our self-check machines.
What is a Hotspot?
A Hotspot is a mobile Wi-Fi unit. Hotspots are can be checked out by Naperville Public Library cardholders. Student Hotspots can be checked out by Naperville Public Library cardholders who are students in school districts 203/204.
Can I return the books to any Naperville Public Library building?
Naperville Public Library materials can be returned at any NPL location. Materials belonging to other libraries can be returned at NPL and routed to the appropriate library but will not be checked in until received by home library.
