Purpose:
The Naperville Public Library offers public
access computers as an information resource.
Selected public access computers offer patron access to the Internet.
The purpose of this policy is to set the conditions under which patrons may
utilize the Library’s public access computers.
-
Scope:
This policy applies to all public access
computers
-
Provisions:
-
Public Access Catalogs and eResource Computers
Public access catalogs and workstations restricted to the use of
subscription databases provided by the Library are freely available to
all patrons.
-
Internet Accessible Computers
Use of the computer workstations with Internet access,
except for “express” workstations in the Adult Services departments,
is limited to holders of a valid NPL library card and to registered
reciprocal borrowers who have signed the Internet User Agreement or the
“click through” version of the Internet User Agreement. Like library
cards, user agreements are non-transferable.
Parents are required to sign the Internet User Agreement for minors. NPL
provides computers with limited Internet access in the Children’s
areas. Limited Internet access may not block all material that users
might find offensive. Children whose parents have signed the Internet
User Agreement have access to all computers, including those providing
unlimited Internet access. Parents may wish to supervise their children’s
Internet sessions. Children under the age of 8 must have a
parent/guardian present at all times while using the Internet. Adults
will be given preference in adult areas and children will be given
preference in children’s areas.
-
Other Public Access Computers
Use of public access computers that only run
Library-supplied application software and that do not offer access to
the Internet is limited to holders of a valid NPL library card and to
registered reciprocal borrowers. Use of Internet-accessible computers
located in the Adult Services departments and designated as “express”
workstations is open to all adults who have signed the Internet User
Agreement or the “click through” version of the Internet User
Agreement.
